Converters · Windows 10 and 11
Converters: any file to another format
Every “this format to that one” in one window: documents, spreadsheets and slides with the office editors' own readers, pictures drawn by the app, video and sound through FFmpeg. Drop files or folders in, pick the format, convert, and save the results one by one or as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded.
Every conversion
What is in it
- Documents: any of DOCX, PDF, Markdown, HTML and text to any other, with Word to PDF, PDF to Word and Markdown to HTML as shortcuts.
- Spreadsheets and slides: Excel, CSV and TSV to PDF, XLSX, CSV, TSV or HTML, and PowerPoint to PDF or one picture per slide.
- Pictures: JPG, PNG and WebP from most picture files, PDF pages as pictures, pictures as a PDF and SVG drawn at any width. HEIC is on its way.
- Video and sound: 34 video formats, 15 sound formats and the sound of a video on its own, whole folders at a time, on the graphics card when it can.
How every converter works
Each one is the same shape: drop files or whole folders onto the window, or press the button to choose them; pick the format and any settings, which apply to everything in the list; press Convert, which names the count and the format. Each row shows its progress and then its result, with a Save button of its own; when several are done, Save all as ZIP gathers them. A file that cannot be read is marked with the reason and the rest carry on. The originals are never changed.
The office and picture converters read and write with the same code as Octoolo's editors, so a file converted here is what the editor would have saved. Video and sound go through FFmpeg, which Octoolo downloads once (77 MB) the first time a media tool needs it. PDFs are written by the app itself, which is why the conversions that produce a PDF run in the installed app.
Why convert on your own PC
Online converters take your file to a server, keep it for a while, cap the size on free plans and often watermark the result. Here a contract, a scan of your passport, a client's deck or a day of interview footage never leaves the computer, there is no size limit beyond your disk, and a folder of two hundred files is no harder than one. It works on a plane, and it keeps working when the website would have gone away.
Questions, answered
Is anything uploaded?
No. Every converter runs on your computer. The only download is FFmpeg, once, for video and sound.
Can I convert a whole folder?
Yes. The video and sound converters take folders and look three levels into them; for the others, select every file in the folder and drop them in together.
Which conversions need the installed app?
The ones that write a PDF: Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF and the document converter's PDF output. Everything else also runs in the browser version.
Does HEIC work?
Not yet. HEIC to JPG is listed as coming.
Where do the results go?
Where you choose: each Save opens the Windows Save dialog, and Save all as ZIP writes one archive. The video and sound converters save next to the originals or in a folder you pick.
