Vector Editor · Windows 10 and 11

A vector editor for logos, icons and cut files

Draw with the pen and shapes, set type in your own fonts, combine shapes with Pathfinder and trace pictures into vectors. Illustrator's tools, names and keys work here. It opens SVG, PDF and Illustrator files and exports SVG, PDF and pictures at exact sizes.

The tools

  • Drawing: the Pen, Curvature and Pencil, which turns what you draw into smooth curves; rectangles with a radius for each corner, ellipses, polygons, stars and lines.
  • Shaping: live Pathfinder (Unite, Minus front, Intersect, Exclude, Divide), the Shape Builder, Scissors and Knife, Offset path, Outline stroke, Simplify, Join, compound paths and clipping masks.
  • Type: point text, text in a box and text on a path, in any font on your PC, and Create outlines to turn letters into shapes.
  • Color: several fills and strokes on one object, gradients drawn with the Gradient tool, opacity and blend modes, and Document colors to change a color everywhere at once.
  • Pictures: place PNG and JPG pictures, and turn them into shapes with Image Trace: PNG to SVG, JPG to SVG.
  • Arranging: layers, groups, Align and spread evenly, smart guides, rulers and guides, and several artboards in one document.

It starts from sizes for what you are making: Logo, Icon, App icon, Instagram post and story, YouTube thumbnail, Letter, A4, Business card, Poster and a 12 × 12 inch Cutting mat, or any size in pixels, millimeters, centimeters, inches or points.

Files in and out

It opens SVG files with their shapes still live, PDF files with each page as an artboard, Illustrator .ai files saved with PDF content, and pictures to trace or place. Whatever cannot be kept is listed as the file opens; see the SVG editor.

File › Save writes an SVG that opens anywhere and reopens here exactly. File › Export… makes a clean SVG in px, mm, cm, in or pt; a PDF with a page per artboard; or PNG, JPG and WebP at 1×, 2×, 3× or an exact width, drawn from the shapes. It exports the current artboard, all of them or just the selection, several files in one .zip. Your work is kept as you go, and the start screen offers it back.

For people coming from Illustrator

The tools have Illustrator's names and keys: V, A, P, T, M, L, Ctrl G to group, Ctrl 7 for a clipping mask, Ctrl 8 for a compound path, Ctrl D to transform again and Ctrl Y for outline view. The command search (Ctrl K) finds commands by name and by Illustrator's words, such as “pathfinder”, “expand appearance” or “live paint”.

Not in it yet: mesh gradients, the blend and width tools, symbols, global swatches, envelope and warp, CMYK and spot colors, and EPS files.

Questions, answered

Is it like Illustrator?

It follows Illustrator's tools, names and shortcuts, for logos, icons, illustrations and cut files. Some of Illustrator's deeper features are not in it yet: mesh gradients, symbols, CMYK and spot colors, and EPS.

Can it open .ai files?

Yes, when they were saved with PDF content, which is Illustrator's default. Their shapes, colors, gradients, pictures and text come in, and anything that cannot be kept is listed.

Which fonts can I use?

Every font installed on your PC.

Does it need the internet?

No. The Vector Editor, Image Trace included, runs on your PC, and your files are never uploaded.

Can I make files for Cricut or a laser cutter?

Yes. Start on the Cutting mat, work in inches or millimeters, and export SVG or PDF at that exact size.
