Photo Editor · Windows 10 and 11
A photo editor with layers and AI, on your PC
Layers and masks, adjustments that stay editable, retouching brushes, text and shapes, and AI that removes backgrounds and enlarges pictures on your own computer. Photoshop's shortcuts work, PSD files open with their layers, and the graphics card keeps it quick on large photos.
What you can do in the Photo Editor
What is in it
- Layers: photos, text, shapes, color and gradient fills and groups, with masks, clipping, Photoshop's blend modes, and Outline, Shadow, Glow and Color effects.
- Adjustments that stay editable: Light & color, Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Black & White, Photo Filter, Gradient Map, .cube color lookups and more, each a layer you can change, hide or mask.
- Live filters: Gaussian, Motion and Radial Blur, Sharpen, Reduce Noise, Grain, Vignette, Pixelate, Oil Paint, Halftone and more, still adjustable after you add them.
- Selections: shapes, lassos, similar colors, Select subject and Select an object with AI, Refine edges for hair, and the quick mask.
- Retouching: Remove & heal, Clone stamp, Dodge, Burn and Sponge, and Blur and Sharpen brushes.
- Everyday jobs: crop and straighten, resize, text in your own fonts, watermarks, blurred faces and collages.
Press Ctrl / and type what you want to do to find any command by name. Your work is kept as you go, so a closed window or a crash loses nothing.
AI on your own computer
The Photo Editor's AI runs on your PC, not on a server: remove the background as a mask you can touch up, select the subject or the background, select an object by clicking it, remove things by painting over them, and upscale a picture 2× or 4×.
Each AI part is downloaded once, the first time you use it, after Octoolo asks: about 200 MB for background removal and the subject and background selections, 20 MB for upscaling. After that it works offline, with no account, no credits and no limit, and your photos are never uploaded. AI › AI parts on this computer… shows what is there.
Files in and out
It opens JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG pictures, and Photoshop PSD files with their layers, groups, masks, blend modes, text and the adjustment layers it has a match for. File › Save keeps your work as an Octoolo project with every layer, exactly.
Export makes JPG, PNG or WebP at any size, with about how big the file will be shown before you save, or a PSD with layers for Photoshop. Exported pictures never carry the place, the camera or the date a photo was taken. File › Many pictures at once… holds quick tools that work without opening the editor, one picture at a time: resize, convert, make smaller and read the text.
Questions, answered
Which pictures does it open?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG, Photoshop PSD files, and its own projects. iPhone HEIC photos do not open: on an iPhone, set Camera, Formats to Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPG.
Does it change my original photo?
Never. Export writes a new file where you choose, and Save keeps your work as an Octoolo project.
Can it remove backgrounds or enlarge photos with AI?
Yes. Layer › Remove background (AI) hides the background with a mask you can touch up, and Image › Upscale 2× or 4× (AI) enlarges a picture. Both run on your PC after a one-time download.
Does it open Photoshop files?
Yes. PSD files open with their layers, groups, masks, blend modes and text, and File › Save a copy as Photoshop (PSD)… writes one back. Live filters Photoshop has no match for go across as merged pixels.
Do Photoshop's shortcuts work?
Yes: V, B, M, Ctrl+J, Ctrl+T, Ctrl+Alt+I and the rest. Help › Keyboard shortcuts lists them all.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your computer, the AI included, and nothing you open is sent anywhere.
