Tu, vous and agreement

French needs information English leaves out. "You" becomes tu or vous, and the model leans toward the polite vous in neutral text: "Hello, how are you?" came out as "Bonjour, comment allez-vous ?" in a test. Adjectives and past participles agree with gender, so "I am tired" is fatigué or fatiguée depending on who speaks, which the model cannot know: it wrote the masculine fatigué. Read the French with these two points in mind.

Punctuation and numbers

French typography puts a space before ?, !, : and ;, uses « guillemets » for quotes and a comma for decimals. The model mostly follows it: in a test, "3.5 percent: really?" became "3,5 pour cent : vraiment ?". Quotes, though, stay the way you typed them, so "yes" in straight quotes stays in straight quotes. For a document that will be printed, a find and replace afterwards turns them into guillemets.

France, Canada, Belgium

The model writes standard French, closest to France's. Canadian French differs in vocabulary (courriel, magasiner, fin de semaine), so a text for Quebec deserves a local reader. To translate French you receive, download French to English as well: it is a separate model, and both work offline.
