A music player for your PC
Drop a music folder on Octoolo's Media Player and every song in it becomes a playlist. A calm view shows the cover, the title, the artist and the album of the song playing, and shuffle, repeat and volume are a click away.
How to play a music folder
- 1
Open the Media Player
Open Media Player in Octoolo, or search for “music player”.
- 2
Drop a folder
Drag a folder (or an album, or a few songs) onto the window, or press Open a folder. Songs in the folders inside it are added too, in name order.
- 3
Play your way
Press Shuffle or Repeat on the bar, drag songs in the playlist to reorder them, and N or P for the next or previous song.
Your folders, as a playlist
There is no library to build: the player plays the folders and files you give it. A folder brings every song inside it and in the folders below, four levels deep, so a whole collection sorted as Artist, then Album, plays in order. M3U, M3U8 and PLS playlists from other players open too, with the songs they name that are on your PC.
In the playlist, each song shows its title, artist and length. Drag one to move it, press × to take it out, and + to add more without stopping the one playing.
Covers and tags
The title, artist, album and year come from the song's own tags (ID3 in MP3s, Vorbis comments in FLAC and Ogg, MP4 tags in M4A). The cover is the picture inside the file, or a cover.jpg or folder.jpg in the album's folder. The quality line under the title shows the format, channels, bit depth and sample rate.
Every kind of music file
MP3, AAC and M4A, FLAC, WAV, Ogg and Opus play as they are. WMA, AC-3, DTS and other older formats become AAC as they play, and lossless files Windows does not decode (Apple Lossless, APE, WavPack, AIFF) become FLAC, so nothing is lost. See the FLAC player for lossless music, and Convert sound files to make copies for a phone.
Questions, answered
Does it scan my PC for music?
No. It plays only what you open, and lists the files you played last.
Can it play songs one after another without a gap?
Not yet: there is a short pause between songs.
Is there an equalizer?
No. There is volume up to 200%, speed with the pitch kept, and repeat of a part from A to B.
Can I edit a song's tags?
No, the player only reads them.
Does it keep playing in the background?
Yes, while Octoolo is open, even when its window is behind others. Closing the window stops the music.
