Text Studio · Windows 10 and 11

Fancy text you can paste anywhere

Type a name, a bio or a heading and Text Studio shows it in 23 letter styles at once: bold, italic, script, gothic, double-struck, typewriter, small capitals, circled, squared, full width, upside down and more. Click one to copy it. These are Unicode characters, not a font, so they keep their look when you paste them into a profile, a post or a message.

Why it works without a font

Bios, usernames and posts on most apps cannot change their font. Fancy text gets around that with characters Unicode already has: its mathematical alphabets include complete sets of letters in bold, italic, script, gothic (fraktur), double-struck, sans-serif and typewriter shapes, and other blocks hold circled, squared, full-width and small capital letters. Each fancy letter is a character of its own, so wherever Unicode text can go, the style goes with it.

The styles in Text Studio: Bold, Italic, Bold italic, Sans bold, Sans italic, Sans bold italic, Script, Bold script, Gothic, Bold gothic, Double-struck, Typewriter, Small capitals, Tiny, Circled, Circled, dark, Squared, Squared, dark, Full width, Upside down, Struck through, Underlined and Slashed.

What to know before you use it

  • Screen readers struggle. A screen reader may spell 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨 letter by letter or read each one as a mathematical symbol, which is tiring for blind and low-vision readers. Keep fancy letters to a name or a short heading, never a whole post.
  • Search does not find it. Fancy letters are different characters from plain ones, so a search for your name in plain letters will not match them.
  • Not every letter has every style. Unicode's styled alphabets cover A to Z and, in some styles, the digits. Accented letters keep their accent as a separate mark over the styled letter, and characters with no styled version stay as they are.
  • Some devices draw them as boxes. Older phones and some fonts lack these characters. The dark squared letters may also show as emoji on some systems.

A few that need explaining

Upside down flips each letter and reverses their order, so the text reads correctly when the screen is turned around. Tiny uses superscript letters; q has none that fonts widely show, so it stays a plain q. Struck through, Underlined and Slashed add a combining line to every character, the one way to get a crossed-out effect in apps that have no strikethrough button.

For ordinary capital letters or title case, use Case, which changes the letters themselves rather than swapping them for look-alikes.

Questions, answered

Will it work in my Instagram or TikTok bio?

Usually, yes: they accept Unicode text. A few apps strip or block some of these characters in usernames, so check how it looks after you save.

Is it a font I can install?

No. These are characters, not a font, which is why they paste anywhere. For a font in documents, choose it in your word processor instead.

Why do some letters not change?

Unicode has no styled version of them. Digits, for example, exist in bold, sans bold, double-struck, typewriter and circled shapes but not in italic or script.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The styles are made on your PC.
